MIL-G-83528

The MIL-G-83528/MIL-DTL-83528 spec is a specification that provides the requirements for electrically-conductive silicone and electrically-conductive fluorosilicone gaskets which provide shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). These gaskets produce shielding against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference to protect sensitive equipment.

EMI and RFI shielding gaskets act as sealants against harsh environmental factors such as heat, moisture, and pressure using elastomers like silicone and fluorosilicone. The silicone and fluorosilicone are then filled with conductive metals such as nickel-coated graphite, silver-coated glass, silver-coated copper, and silver-coated aluminum which increase the gasket’s conductivity.

The types below call out different elastomers such as silicone and fluorosilicone along with a variety of fillers:

MIL-G-83528 Type A calls out silver-coated copper-filled silicone with a temperature range of -55°C to 125°C and a shielding effectiveness of 110 dB at 10 GHz. Our product, AG-658-65, meets MIL-G-83528 Type A.

MIL-G-83528 Type B calls out silver-coated aluminum-filled silicone with a temperature range of -55°C to 160°C and a shielding effectiveness of 100 dB at 10 GHz. Our product, AG-3479-65, meets MIL-G-83528 Type B.

MIL-G-83528 Type D calls out silver-coated aluminum-filled fluorosilicone with a temperature range of -55°C to 160°C and a shielding effectiveness of 90 dB at 10 GHz. Our following products meet MIL-G-83528 Type D: AG-661-70 Passivated, AG-3597-70, and AG-661-45.

MIL-G-83528 Type K calls out high-durometer silver-coated copper-filled silicone with a temperature range of -55°C to 125°C and a shielding effectiveness of 110 dB at 10 GHz. Our product, AG-664-80, meets MIL-G-83528 Type K.

MIL-G-83528 Type L calls out high-durometer silver-coated nickel-filled silicone with a temperature range of -55°C to 125°C and a shielding effectiveness of 100 dB at 10 GHz. Our product, AG-593-75, meets MIL-G-83528 Type L.

MIL-G-83528 Type M calls out high-durometer silver-coated glass-filled silicone with a temperature range of -55°C to 160°C and a shielding effectiveness of 100 dB at 10 GHz. Our product, AG-527-65, meets MIL-G-83528 Type M.
