PVC/Nitrile Closed Cell Sponge Rubber

When the elastomer compounds of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and Nitrile (Buna-N) combine, excellent energy / impact absorbing properties and good chemical resistance properties are demonstrated. Closed cell PVC/Nitrile sponge rubber is a premium gasket and seal material and is also an excellent material for padding and shock absorption applications. Atlantic Gasket Corporation is a leading manufacturer of gaskets and die-cut parts fabricated from PVC/Nitrile closed cell sponge. And although we use closed cell PVC/Nitrile rubber for a variety of industrial applications, it is also used as protective padding in personal protective equipment, sports gear, and many other commercial applications. Our gasket engineering team will work with you to provide custom PVC/Nitrile closed cell sponge die-cut or waterjet cut gaskets and padding to your exact requirements with or without an adhesive backing. This material can also be supplied in continuous rolls starting as narrow as ¼" wide.

Example Gasket Application Properties
Gaskets and Seals The fine closed cell structure, chemical resistance and UL 94 flammability rating makes closed cell PVC/Nitrile the perfect gasket material for many products.
Shock Absorbing and Padding With excellent shock and impact absorbing characteristics, PVC/Nitrile closed cell sponge is an excellent material for protective padding in athletic equipment or in any other application that requires an energy absorbing material.

Atlantic Gasket Corporation offers five grades of closed cell PVC/Nitrile sponge rubber:
  • MLC and MLC-2 – are available in thicknesses ranging from 1/16" up to 1½", in rolls 56" wide by 75 ft. long. Both grades have a fine cell structure, good chemical resistance and are fire rated. MLC is supplied in a black color, while MLC-2 is supplied in a natural (tan) color and is our softest grade.
  • AHC – is available in thicknesses ranging from 1/16" up to 1¼", in rolls 56" wide by 96 ft. long. AHC is a premium padding material with excellent shock absorption properties. This material also meets UL 94 HF-1 and UL 94 VO specifications for flammability.
  • SSC and SCC are available in thicknesses ranging from 1/16" up to 1", in rolls 56" wide by 100 ft. long. Both materials are high density, have a very fine cell structure and exhibit low compression set. SSC is supplied in a black color, and SCC is available in gray and natural (tan) colors.

Depending on the grade, Atlantic Gasket’s PVC/Nitrile (Buna-N) gaskets and seals meets the following specifications: ASTM D 1056-68, 1056-85, 91, 98, UL 94 HF-1, UL 94 VO, and FMVSS-302. For more information on the physical properties of this elastomer material, see closed cell PVC/Nitrile sponge rubber.
