Foam & Sponge

Atlantic Gasket Corporation stocks both sponge and foam materials, which exhibit different mechanical and physical properties. Each is available in several densities, and polymer variations that make them suitable for diverse applications from gaskets, seals, spacers and cabinet bumpers to adhesive backed tapes just to mention a few of the most common uses. Sponge Materials

Closed Cell Neoprene

Closed Cell Neoprene offers good resistance to acid, alkali, gasoline, and oil. Closed Cell Neoprene is excellent for applications that require resistance to UV, oxidation and ozone in long-term outdoor applications. This series of closed cell Neoprene is a 100% Neoprene rubber and is available in Soft (SCE41NEO), Medium (SCE42NEO) and Firm (SCE43NEO) density and has a temperature range of -40°F to + 150°F. Closed Cell EPDM

Closed Cell EPDM offers excellent resistance to ozone and oxidation and performs well in applications where temperatures can range from -70°F to + 220°F. This series of closed cell EPDM is 100% EPDM rubber and is available in a soft (RE41EPT) and a medium (RE42EPT) density. Closed Cell Nitrile (Buna-N)

Closed Cell Nitrile (Buna-N) is an excellent gasket material for sealing applications that require fuel, oil and UV resistance. Closed Cell Nitrile has a high resistance to vegetable oil, animal oil, and mineral oil. Closed Cell Nitrile also performs well as a gasket or sealing material in petroleum-based applications. This series of Closed Cell Nitrile is a 100% Nitrile rubber with a temperature range of -40°F to + 250°F and is available in a soft (C41NBR), medium (C42NBR) and a firm (C43NBR) density. Closed Cell Silicone

Closed Cell Silicone offers excellent sealing qualities, plus compression set, flame, ozone, and UV resistance. This high-end Closed Cell Silicone is widely used for demanding applications and is excellent for applications that will be exposed to extreme temperatures ranging from -103°F to + 450°F. Silicone Closed Cell sponge is available in soft, medium, firm and extra firm densities. Silicone Closed Cell sponge is also available in low compression set, flame retardant, and fiberglass reinforced grades. Closed Cell ECH (Epichlorohydrin)

ECH offers excellent fuel and chemical resistance and performs well in applications where temperature can range from -40°F to 300°F. ECH is supplied in a soft density (AG-5162), medium soft density (AG-5163), medium density (AG-5164) and extra firm density (AG-5166). Closed Cell EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)

Closed Cell EVA is light weight and odorless. Closed Cell EVA foam exhibits good mechanical strength, excellent chemical resistance, high buoyancy, low water absorption, and good acoustic properties. Closed Cell EVA foam can be supplied in 2# (AG-2011) and 4# (AG-4911) densities and demonstrates excellent climate, temperature, and aging resistance in outdoor applications. Closed Cell Neoprene/EPDM

Closed Cell Neoprene / EPDM sponge is an excellent general purpose gasketing material that can be used in both indoor and outdoor sealing applications which may see temperatures as low as -40° F and as high as + 250° F. Our Closed Cell Neoprene / EPDM sponge is both UL-94- HF-1 and FMVSS-302 listed and works well in gasketing applications that will be exposed to oils, ozone, sunlight and oxidation. This gasket material is supplied in a soft density (AGSCE41M), medium-soft density (AGSCE42M), medium density (AGSCE43M), firm density (AGSCE44M) and an extra firm density (AGSCE45M). Closed Cell Neoprene/EPDM/SBR

Closed Cell Neoprene/EPDM/SBR combines the best qualities of these three polymers which creates an excellent gasket material used in many diverse indoor and outdoor applications. Neoprene/EPDM/SBR Closed Cell sponge is resistant to ozone, sunlight, and oxidation. This material meets UL157, UL50E, UL50, UL48, UL508 AND UL94HF-1 and are available in a soft (SCE41B), medium soft (SCE42B), medium (SCE43B) and extra firm (SCE45B) density. Neoprene/EPDM/SBR Closed Cell sponge performs well in applications that range in temperature from -40°F to + 200°F. Closed Cell PVC/Nitrile

Closed Cell PVC / Nitrile sponge combines excellent energy / impact / shock absorbing properties and good chemical resistance. Closed cell PVC / Nitrile sponge is available in five grades MLC (4 pcf), MLC-2 (4 pcf), AHC (7pcf), SCC (12 pcf) and SSC (12 pcf). Depending on the grade, our PVC / Nitrile closed cell sponge meets ASTM D 1056-68, 1056-85, 91, 98, 07, ASTM-D-6576-07 Type 2 Grade A & B Condition soft, UL 94 HF-1, UL 94 HBF, UL 94 V0, and FMVSS-302. Closed Cell Neoprene/PVC/Nitrile

Closed Cell Neoprene / PVC / Nitrile sponge is an economical sealing and gasket material for applications requiring good resistance to chemicals and conformance with UL 94 flammability ratings. Closed cell Neoprene / PVC / Nitrile sponge meets ASTM-D-1056-68, ASTM-D-1056-85, 91, 98, 07 2C1, 2B2 and 2B3, ASTM-D-6576-07 TYPE 2, Grade A & B condition soft and medium and is an excellent gasketing material for automotive applications and electrical enclosures that require a UL 94 HF-1, UL 94 V0 or UL 94 HBF flammability rating. Neoprene / PVC / Nitrile Closed Cell sponge is available in three densities: IV1 (4 pcf), IV2 (6 pcf) and IV3 (8 pcf) and works well in temperatures ranging from -40°F to + 200°F. Natural Open Cell Sponge

Natural Open Cell Sponge is excellent for cushioning applications as well as for applications that require a skid resistant surface. Natural Open Cell Sponge does not take a compression set and is the material of choice for die ejection applications. Natural Open cell Sponge is available in five densities: RO11 (soft), RO12 (medium), RO13 (medium firm), RO14 (firm), and RO15 (extra firm). For die ejection applications, we offer Natural Open Cell sponge in three densities: style 3261 (28 pcf), 3271 (32 pcf), and 3281 (36 pcf). Foam Materials

In addition to the wide range of sponge materials, Atlantic Gasket has many foam materials available that are diverse in their chemical composition and mechanical properties. Some of the most common types used for gaskets and other die cut parts are:

Crushed Cellular Foam

Crushed cellular foam, or semi-closed cell, is very soft (less than 1 psi on the 25% Compression Deflection scale) and is designed for sealing flexible or uneven substrates. This material is a closed cell foam that is crushed to create small ruptures in the cells, allowing greater compression and less compression set than closed cell foams. Atlantic Gasket offers crushed cellular foam in both EPDM (Ensolite EFO) and PVC Nitrile (Ensolite SFO) versions. Cross-linked Polyethylene Foam

Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam has good thermal insulating properties and excellent chemical properties that make it suitable for a wide range of applications. The Volara line of Cross-Linked Polyethylene foam, manufactured by Voltek, has a smooth skinned surface on both sides and is supplied in continuous rolls and Plastazote Cross-Linked Polyethylene foam, which is manufactured by Zotefoams PLC is supplied in sheets. Volara's Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam is available in six different grades: styles 2A and 2AF (UL rated and meets ASTM E84-03 Flame spread index 5) are 2# density, style 4A and 4EO are 4# density and 6A and 6EO are 6# density. Zotefoams Cross-Linked Polyethylene foam is available in eight grades: style LD33, LD45, LD45FR (UL rated), and LD70 are low density; style HD60 and HD80 are high density; and LD50 CN and EV45 CN are conductive. Open Cell Polyurethane Foam

Open Cell Polyurethane Foam is available in 2#, 4# and 6# densities in both Polyether and Polyester based formulations. Open Cell Polyurethane Foam can be found in any of the following industries / applications: acoustical, aerospace, appliance, automotive, filtration, industrial, gaskets and seals, marine, military, foam tapes, dust seals and speaker surrounds. The standard color of Open Cell Polyurethane Foam is charcoal gray with special colors available upon request. All five of our standard grades of Open Cell Polyurethane foam meet both the UL 94 HF1 and FMVSS-302 Flammability ratings. Cellular Urethane Open Cell Foam

Cellular Urethane Open Cell Foam is offered in three manufactured Cellular Urethane foam families for diverse industrial and commercial applications. Our Non-skinned Cellular Urethane Foam is a family of medium to firm density urethane foams that is engineered in two formulations. The "I" series exhibits high resiliency and high rebound within a broad temperature range and all four grades are fire retardant, meeting FMVSS-302. The "U" series Cellular Urethane Open Cell foam offers excellent compression set resistance, is lightweight, breathable, and moisture wicking. Our Open Cell Polyurethane (Memory) Foam has unique properties that allow for even pressure distribution and the free flow of air. Our Cast-to Gauge Cellular Urethane Foam is a fine-celled Cellular Urethane foam that exhibits very low compression set, low outgassing, good dimensional stability, and chemical resistance. PVC Foam

This foam material is a general-purpose closed cell foam with good air, moisture, and dust sealing properties, plus UV and chemical resistance. Density range of 6 to 15 PCF, thickness from 1/32" to 1".

Viton® rubber gasket materials

The variety of grades of Viton® rubber gasket materials supplied by Atlantic Gasket Corporation is as extensive as it is impressive. From Commercial Grade Viton® rubber, Viton® A rubber, Viton® B rubber, Viton® F rubber, Viton® Extreme rubber, to Viton® Base Resistance rubber, this gasket manufacturer allows each client to chose the right materials for the job. These Viton® rubber gaskets exhibit a number of important properties, including their impermeability to gas and their resistance to heat, aliphatic hydrocarbon fluids, acids, and oils. The materials come as thin as .016" or as thick as .250", and can be ordered as 36" wide Viton® rubber sheets or die cut Viton® gaskets. Their hardness can be specified between 55 to 90 durometer. By offering such a varied list of superior gasket materials, Atlantic Gasket Corporation has proven itself as a leader in the field.
